Prototype
A downloadable game for Windows
Stuff I Learned
This was pretty crazy because I set a deadline for this and thought ok I can get this amount of things done and while I didn't get the things done I was originally thinking I learned a crapload about developing and releasing a game, while still primitive knowledge. The game looks like crap and it's short only, two levels but the idea is there and I can now I say I released a fully functional game with working game loop.
- Player Controller - I separated the controller from the character and while nothing changed that's the control method that I liked over what tutorials showed so also learning how to work other tutorials into my flow.
- Game Modes and Instances
- Shaders - Holy hell was this crazy. I created this edge shader with the help of a tutorial and it took forever. I thought I was getting it and nope, not at all. It works but I didn't like it in this game -- maybe for next project.
- Editor Utility Widget for the Shader picker
- The key collection system that counts the amount of keys in a level to determine dynamically how many are required to open the door
- All the UI and animations on the UI although primitive all works and needs polish. It works!
- The packaging process, interesting we'll see if it works for people.
- Aaaaaand a lot more I know Im missing.
This is my first game that I'm ever releasing for anyone to play. I've been wanting to do this for years and finally told myself I have 5 days to complete a game and release it no matter the state and this is what I have come up with "Prototype" a First-Person Maze / Puzzle game where you must find creative ways to collect the keys and reach the end goal in the fastest time possible.
Let me know your thoughts, again it's my first game, I have a full time job and I only used assets available in the Unreal Engine templates but I recreated the movement in a Player Controller.
